In 2019 WINIR sponsored the Fifth Witten Conference on Institutional Change organised by the Witten Institute for Institutional Change (WIWa) at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany. Papers from economics, politics, ethics, psychology, philosophy, and other relevant social sciences that deal with artificial intelligence and big data were welcome.
In 2019 WINIR sponsored the Second Conference of the Forum for Institutional Thought held at the Pedagogical University of Kraków in Poland. Speakers discussed the economic, legal and philosophical challenges and threats associated with the design and implementation of institutional solutions aimed at achieving better life standards in the 21st century.
In 2018 WINIR sponsored the Fourth Witten Conference on Institutional Change organised by the Witten Institute for Institutional Change (WIWa) at Witten/Herdecke University in Germany. Papers from any relevant discipline conceptualizing and dealing with institutional pathologies were welcome.
In 2019 WINIR sponsored an international conference on law and development jointly organised by the São Paolo Law School of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paolo (USP) in Brazil. Legal, economic, and political aspects of the topic were addressed.
In 2016 WINIR sponsored the First Annual Symposium on Neo-Institutional Law & Economics held at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador. Submissions from law, political science, sociology, and economics scholars on any topic regarding the neo-institutional economic analysis of law were welcome.
Eight articles have made the shortlist for the 2026 Elinor Ostrom Prize, which will be announced at the WINIR Conference on Private and Public Institutions for Good Governance Rome, Italy (22-24 July 2026). The award will be announced at the conference dinner.
The winners of the Reviewer of the Year Prize for 2025, awarded by the editors of the Journal of Institutional Economics in recognition of their outstanding service, are Randall Holcombe (Florida State University, USA), Sinclair Davidson (RMIT University, Australia) and Clara Jean (Grenoble Ecole de Management, France).

With a turnout of 32.87%, the WINIR Council election results are in: we are pleased to announce that Massiliano Vatiero, Paolo Silvestri, Nadia von Jabobi, and Daniel Cole will be joining Richard Langlois, David Gindis, Francesca Gagliardi, and Lyndal Keeton in the new WINIR Council, which will be inaugurated on 1 March 2024.
